Backup and exports

DoseAlert keeps everything on your device. Create a backup or export when you want a readable copy or a report for your doctor.

Back up your data

Go to Settings > Back up data. DoseAlert generates a single backup file containing every medication, group, dose log, and setting.

After tapping Back up, the phone's share sheet opens so you can save or send the file:

• Save to iCloud Drive or Google Drive
• Save to the Files or Downloads folder
• Email it to yourself
• Send it via Messages or any other app

Keep a backup before you upgrade to a new phone or reinstall the app.

Moving to a new phone

DoseAlert cannot import a backup file yet. The JSON backup is a readable record, not a one-tap restore. Keep it as a reference and re-enter the medications on the new phone.

Restore purchases is separate. It restores the lifetime store entitlement when you sign in with the same Apple ID or Google Play account, but it does not restore medication records.

Export medication list (CSV)

Go to Settings > Export medication list. DoseAlert builds a CSV (spreadsheet) file with one row per medication, showing:

• Name
• Dose
• Schedule
• Groups
• Refill information
• Notes

Opens in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.

Export dose history (CSV)

Go to Settings > Export dose history. DoseAlert builds a CSV with one row per dose, showing:

• Medication name
• Scheduled time
• Actual time taken (if you recorded one)
• Status (Taken, Skipped, Not sure, Missed)
• Dose amount

Perfect for sharing with a doctor's office that wants spreadsheet data.

Export PDF report (Pill Tracker)

Open the Pill Tracker tab and tap the share icon in the top-right. Choose PDF report. DoseAlert creates a printable PDF showing the month's adherence visually, alongside your medication list. Share it via email, save to Files, or print it.

How often should I back up?

A good rhythm is:

• After a big change (adding several medications, creating a taper).
• Once a month as a habit.
• Before you upgrade your phone or reinstall the app.

What if I delete DoseAlert without a backup?

Local medication records are lost. DoseAlert does not keep a cloud backup that support can recover. Export first, unpair any caregiver connection, and remember that the current backup file is for reference rather than in-app restoration.
